Overview

Future of Health Conference Overview Every year, Nigeria Health Watch’s Future of Health Conference convenes delegates, speakers and partners working to find solutions to the challenges in the health sector, advocating for policy action to ensure that all Nigerians have access to quality and affordable healthcare. Speakers represent the breadth of the health and other allied sectors, bringing forward ideas and sharing knowledge to inspire change in the health sector. Post-conference, insights from speakers, partners and participants continue to be strategically disseminated to inform ongoing conversations and advocacy.

Previous conferences have focused on diverse issues: Universal Health Coverage (2015), Health Meets Tech (2016), Business of Health (2017), The Diaspora as Nigeria’s Brain Gain (2018), Quality in Healthcare (2019), Innovations in Health (2020), Gender equality - Breaking Glass Ceilings (2021). In anticipation of the 2023 presidential elections and its unique opportunity to push health up the political agenda, the 2022 conference highlighted the Political Economy of Health (2022). It provided insights and actionable recommendations that brought important issues to the forefront, setting the foundation for new ventures and partnerships. In 2023, the 9th edition focused on the Private Sector as a Catalyst for a Resilient Health System, highlighting the importance of leveraging the private sector’s capacity to deliver quality care and promote quality improvements in the public sector.

Continuous engagements and insights from the 2016 edition led to health meets tech hackathons organised in Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa with support from Meta (Facebook), Pandemic Tech, and Tech Ranch. The 2018 Future of Health Conference elevated discussions around Nigeria’s brain gain, and in partnership with the World Bank, led to a workshop that highlighted investment opportunities in Nigeria’s health sector.
